Sardinia Wine & Culture Tour

Our third collaboration with Sempre Italiano brings us back to Sardinia. The tour ran from September 21-29, 2019. This year we really lucked out in Sardara as this was the weekend of their yearly celebration of their patron Saint that included a procession and a festival just down the street from our hotel at the thermal spa. We were also invited to witness some grape stomping and have a workman’s lunch with the folks from Mogoro Vineyard. I have never seen an ox before and they are enormous! The oxen brought in the grapes for some local children to stomp. It was a charming scene.

We also got to see the dancers up in the Giara because there is a new area that Roberto was able to open up that was much more convenient especially the restroom situation. So everyone had a great time learning the folk dances and eating handmade gelato in the shade as we watched the dancers. We also had more wine tastings and visited the textile cooperative to see the handicrafts and we also tasted some great pecorino at the local cheese shop.

We were able to go to the Santa Cristina site of the sacred well and be there on the Equinox which was exciting and fun and also visit a unique distillery in the town of Santu Lussurgiu. We had a fabulous lunch at Antica Dimora prepared by Chef Sara. The food and the presentation were truly extraordinary! The next day we headed to Alghero stopping at our favorite restaurant in Flussio, Da Cristian and had a great lunch there. Next we stopped in Bosa for a walk around town to stretch our legs. Once in Alghero we had our sailing day, and explored the town as well as the trip to Castelsardo and spent more time at our lovely hotel enjoying the amenities. We were able to fly out of Alghero airport because flights being more available in September we could get everyone out from there without having to drive to Olbia. Marcia and I want to thank all the tour members for making this another successful and fun adventure! Thanks to Jim, Joyce, Tim, Francine, Julie, Pam, Jane, Adam, Mark, Patti, Ralph, Thorey, Steve, Patti, Brad and of course Laura and Raff.
