North Portugal Tour

The North Portugal Tour was our first tour since Covid and we all had a great time. As it turned out it was all ladies because a couple who had planned on coming had a health emergency so no guys. We had fun though! I should say there was one guy with us, our driver Mario, who kept us laughing with his stories and gave us great tips on places to eat. We started off in Porto and then went to our first agriturismo, Quinta da Cancela, run by the fabulous Arthur and family. We had great food there and great wine too. From that base of operations we went to the Cities of Barcelos, Braga, and Guimaraes, shopped at the farmers market, went to the Castle and Ducal Palace. Next we headed up to the Douro Valley to our accommodation at Quinta da Pego to explore the port wine producers and taste some amazing wines. Along the way we went on a ATV ride to the top of a mountain, had a picnic in a wine lagar, and a tasting too! We visited the Mateus Palace, had a cruise on the Douro river and some amazing meals at a few different wineries and restaurants in the area. Then it was time to return to Porto for the last couple of days where we visited the city, did some shopping, visited an artisan pottery shop and saw a Fado show. Thank you to Patti, Eileen, and Francine for making our first tour back a success! We enjoyed having you on the tour. Also a big thanks to Mario our intrepid driver who went the extra mile just about every day. Also thanks to Arthur for his wonderful food and wine.
